Life in Leederville is a docu-style mockumentary web series set in one of Perth’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.

The series follows local business owners, chefs, and hospitality workers — capturing the rhythm of their daily lives both behind the scenes and out on the floor. From early morning prep to late-night service, it reveals the energy, pressure, and personality that define the area.

Blending observational documentary with mockumentary-style humour, the series offers an authentic yet playful look at the people who bring Leederville to life — their stories, their hustle, and the community they’ve built within one of the city’s most iconic precincts.

At its core, Life in Leederville is about character and environment — a grounded, character-driven snapshot of a local scene that feels alive, connected, and constantly moving.

Most filmmakers don’t fail because of talent.

They fail because they never reach the market.

Not because their work isn’t strong -

but because they don’t understand development.

That is the gap.

The Dolly Llama Development Lab is built to bridge it.

Hassibullah Kushkaki is an Afghan-US-German filmmaker based in Amsterdam.

Born in Germany in 1990 to parents who fled the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, he spent his early years in Europe before migrating to Tucson, Arizona.

Growing up in a household with five siblings, he found an early outlet in sports and humour—and a lasting pull toward storytelling.

After his family relocated to Australia in 2012, Hassibullah left Arizona and spent several fast years in South Florida — a period that would later inspire the tone of his feature script Fast Boy Lockey.

In 2018, he reunited with his family and moved to Perth, Australia, where his professional film career began to take shape.

Since 2020, Dolly Llama has produced 25+ shorts and held 10+ cinema screenings and completed its first feature, Rampage Electra (2022), which premiered at the WA Made Film Festival and won Best Narrative Feature at the Arizona Underground Film Festival.

Hassibullah is currently developing the European-set drama The Scoundrel. His work explores emotional survival, cultural displacement, and the humour that lives inside chaos.
